“O God, help us to believe the truth about ourselves, no matter how beautiful it may be”

Getting to know myself – prompt 6

Getting to know myself – prompt 6

Today’s prompt from Onsite is “What opportunities have you had in the past where emotional intelligence could have or did make an impact”?

One opportunity where emotional intelligence always has an impact is within my relationship with my fiancé. I definitely don’t do emotional intelligence perfectly all the time, but being aware of my emotions and his emotions can help me bring up things in ways that are more productive for the both of us.

Another opportunity that is coming to mind with regards to emotional intelligence having an impact was a youth group I previously helped out with. So much discussion was centered around what’s wrong with us or what we could be doing better; in its essence, it was very shame-based. To break that tendency and to still tie in discussion to the sermon message, I used that time to have the youth encourage each other, and I could evidently see it made a difference in how they felt about each other and themselves. This isn’t to say that there are not things to work on, but it is to say that there isn’t anything wrong with us, and we need the full picture of our goodness as well, otherwise we are living a lie.
