Today’s question from Onsite is “What do your closest relationships look like? Do these relationships allow for the full authenticity of both members?”
The first person I thought of was my husband. I don’t know if we show 100% full authenticity, to be honest I think that is impossible as people always have shame and there are always going to be issues to resolve. However, as the inexperienced newlyweds that we are, I do think we feel very comfortable around each other and will definitely show parts of ourselves that most other people in our lives don’t know as well. We are each others’ best friend, so there is at least a lot of trying to be authentic with one another.
The other group of people that I though of are my close friends. Like I mentioned in the last paragraph, I don’t think it’s possible to ever have 100% full authenticity, but there’s a level of genuine connection with these friends that I have, which is why I’m friends with them. Personally, I think one of the more difficult things to connect on with these friends is where I stand with my faith. I met these friends when my faith was one way, and it has changed quite a bit over the past two years. At this moment in my life, I try not to let it come between my friendships with these people, though.
