Today’s prompt from Onsite is: “Are there relationships that you feel lack intimacy due to the other person’s ability to open up? What do you think is holding them back?”
There are definitely relationships I feel lack intimacy due to the other person’s ability to open up, or to be vulnerable and be honest with themselves and others. Usually when I see this happen, I think fear and shame is holding them back (I would say pride, but pride is a manifestation of shame). I cannot resolve people’s fear and shame for them, and as much as I would like to be closer to certain people, they have to want to handle those emotions themselves (and this is something that I grieve, but I also want overall healthier relationships).
