“O God, help us to believe the truth about ourselves, no matter how beautiful it may be”

Getting to know myself – prompt 45

Today’s question from Onsite is “What messages do you think you’ve subconsciously absorbed from society (representations in media, expectations, and norms in your culture)?”

Ooh I have definitely absorbed the message that to be beautiful is to look a certain way – thin, a certain number on the scale, a certain kind of face, etc… all that fun stuff. I don’t know if I necessarily judge others who don’t full under those subconscious standards, but unfortunately, I do judge myself. The line between beauty and health appear difficult for me to draw at times. As I get older though, I am trying my best to base my health off of my cycle, and that is one way I am slowly giving myself self-compassion with regards to the more harmful messages of society.
